BTA, which stands for Beat the Average, is a pricing system where buyers can choose the price to pay for a bundle of items where there are at least two tiers of items being offered. By paying more than the average amount, the buyer receives the additional items in the higher tier. The initial average amount is typically a target amount set by the bundle seller. Sometimes the “average” isn’t an average at all, but a higher minimum price that adds the items of that tier. In this way there can be more than two tiers.

Examples[]

  • Humble Bundle - Typically has either a $0.01 or $1 minimum for the basic bundle and a second tier of games for those who beat the average.
  • Indie Gala - Typically has a $1 minimum for the bundle and a second tier of games for those who beat the average.
